Brian Keefe, a 6-foot-4, 185-pound shooting guard from Winchester (Mass.) High, has signed a financial-aid agreement to play basketball at UC Irvine.
Keefe, the school’s all-time leading scorer with 1,163 points, averaged 28 points a game last season.
“Brian has good basketball instincts and will be a very good scorer for us,” Coach Rod Baker said.
Parry O’Keefe of Laguna Beach defeated John Gabriel of Huntington Beach, 7-5, 6-1, in the 75 age-group men’s singles of the Pacific Southwest Seniors Championships at Lindborg Racquet Club in Huntington Beach.
In the 65 singles category, Doris Clark of Laguna Beach defeated Santa Monica’s Do Do Cheney by default.
Four local surfers advanced to the first round of the main event of the Bud Surf Tour at the Lower Trestles in San Clemente.
Chris Ward and Benji Severson of San Clemente, Branden Faber of Laguna Beach, Tim Reardon of Dana Point and Jason Haughey of Laguna Niguel will be competing at 7 a.m. today.
