MDT Shareholders to Meet: Torrance-based MDT Corp. will hold its annual meeting this week, and dissenting shareholders plan to challenge management by withholding their votes on the firm’s directors. The company, which makes sterilization systems for medical instruments, has had an erratic earnings record since 1989, and its stock has fallen to $4.875 a share on Nasdaq from a peak of $15.13 in 1989. The dissident shareholders are led by Andrew Shapiro of Lawndale Capital Management in San Francisco. MDT, which had $137 million in sales last year, is expected to announce restructuring steps that may partly address Shapiro’s concerns about restoring consistent growth in earnings. The meeting is set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at 19645 Rancho Way in Rancho Dominguez.
