Vandenberg Job Cuts Planned: An unspecified number of jobs will be eliminated as Martin Marietta Corp. merges its Titan and Atlas rocket-launch operations at Vandenberg Air Force Base and Cape Canaveral in Florida, the company said. Currently, 630 people work for Martin Marietta at Vandenberg and 1,070 are employed at Cape Canaveral. Martin Marietta recently bought the Atlas business from General Dynamics Corp. and has already announced plans to move the Atlas production line to Denver from San Diego along with all but 300 of the 2,100 jobs at the plant. Martin Marietta said it will know by Sept. 30 how many jobs will be cut at Vandenberg. The consolidation is to be completed this year.
