Ampuero Wins at Tennis Qualifier

Cecelia Ampuero of Newport Beach was among the first-round winners Wednesday in a pre-qualifying tournament for the Toshiba Tennis Classic at Rancho San Clemente Tennis and Fitness Club.
Ampuero defeated Molly Gavin of Escondido, 6-3, 6-1. The winner of the event earns a berth in the qualifying tournament for the classic, July 30-31 at La Costa Resort & Spa.
In other matches involving local residents, Lisa Alipaz of Anaheim Hills lost to La Costa’s Betsy Miringhoff, 6-3, 6-1, and Jennifer Shoudt of Seal Beach lost to Bonita’s Cammie Foley, 6-0, 6-2.
