** 1/2 Tony Bennett, “MTV Unplugged,” Columbia. There are six more songs here than in the hourlong telecast, but none feature J Mascis and Evan Dando, the young rock guests who might have stirred this up into something more than a cruise-control performance. It’s a typically masterful, buoyant set of pop standards, but there’s not a trace of adventure or surprise.
New albums are rated on a scale of one star (poor), two stars (fair), three stars (good) and four stars (excellent).
