* * * Sergio Salvatore, “Tune Up,” GRP. Salvatore’s first album, recorded when he was 12, marked the remarkable arrival of a prodigal new jazz pianist. Now 13, his second outing iseven more of a revelation. That Salvatore can swing hard is stunningly apparent on pieces such as “Autumn Leaves” and “Au Privave.” Even more impressive is the subtlety of his dynamic touch on ballads--especially “Almost Home” and “Over the Rainbow”--and a bristling duet with Chick Corea on “Sea Journey.”
Albums are rated on a scale of one star (poor), two stars (fair), three stars (good, recommended), four stars (excellent).
