BREA — Jeff Sink, the third-winningest girls’ basketball coach in Alaska history, was named Friday to coach Brea-Olinda’s program.
Sink, 43, was hired in October, 1993, to teach history for the 1994-95 school year.
He saw the four-time defending State champion Ladycats during the playoffs while on a house-hunting trip to the area in March. He was a finalist for the position last year, but the job went to Brea assistant John Hattrup. Brea-Olinda finished 33-0 and was ranked No. 1 in one national poll. Hattrup resigned May 31 because he wanted full-time employment.
Sink compiled a 272-73 record in 13 years at Fairbanks Lathrop, and was 130-20 over the last six.
Lathrop won state titles in 1990 and 1992, won six consecutive regional titles and finished among the top four teams in the state eight times. Sink was twice named state coach of the year.
