Area Pair to Play in State Series
Simi Valley High third baseman Ryan Hankins and Notre Dame pitcher Rich Igou have been selected to play in the state North-South all-star baseball series this weekend in Fresno.
Twenty players from Southern California, chosen from a tryout Sunday, will face a team from the North in games Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Hankins, Marmonte League co-player of the year, hit nine home runs for the Pioneers this season. He has signed to play at UNLV and was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 33rd round last week.
Igou won 11 games and hit six home runs for Notre Dame, winning Mission League most valuable player honors. Igou has signed with the University of San Francisco and was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in an undisclosed round.
