SOUTHERN SECTION SOFTBALL : Crouch Shuts Down Foothill

The ground around home plate appeared steady, but pitcher Marcy Crouch kept Foothill off-balance throughout. The right-handed junior struck out 10 and allowed one hit, a single, to lead Huntington Beach Marina to a 2-0 victory in the Southern Section Division I softball championship Friday night at Lakewood Mayfair Park.
The Vikings (26-2) finish the season on a 16-game winning streak and allowed one run in their five playoff games.
Heather Hibben’s single to left field with two out in the bottom of the fifth scored pinch runner Megan Orach from third base for what proved to be the winning run. Lynette Velazquez added a sixth-inning RBI double scoring Crouch.
Crouch (22-2) had 156 strikeouts this season and seven walks Santa Maria St. Joseph pitcher Kerri Duncan scattered seven hits and allowed one run to propel the Knights (24-6) to a 4-1 victory over La Canada (24-3) in the Division IV championship game.
