WASHINGTON — Eight American Airlines baggage handlers were charged with stealing valuables from bags they handled at National Airport, FBI officials said Thursday.
Airport police and the FBI installed hidden cameras in the baggage area and recorded numerous instances of the workers breaking into baggage. The workers would examine the contents and remove valuables such as video cameras, jewelry and laptop computers, the FBI said.
Authorities said the airline suspected a problem, notified police and cooperated with investigators.
