Fluor Profit Up 14%: The rise in second-quarter earnings partly reflects improved profit margins in the Irvine-based company’s core engineering, construction and technical services unit. Fluor Corp. also announced that J. Michael Conaway, 45, has been named chief financial officer, succeeding James O. Rollans, 51, who was promoted to senior vice president and chief administrative officer. Flour’s net income rose to $47.7 million, or 58 cents a share, from $42 million, 51 cents, a year ago. Earnings were better than Wall Street’s expectations of 54 cents a share based on the mean estimate of 12 analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research. Fluor stock closed up 2 at $53.75 in New York Stock Exchange trading.
