Governor Candidates

I really was having a difficult time deciding between (Democratic gubernatorial candidates) Kathleen Brown and John Garamendi. After hearing the debates my dilemma was quickly resolved (May 25). I am voting for the candidate who did not evade the questions by substituting mostly irrelevant, prepared speeches, for answers. I am voting for the candidate who answered the questions directly with humanity and wisdom, unwilling to appeal to the public’s ignorance on crime, education and immigration. The fact that he may have a poor chance of winning is not good cause for withholding your vote.
I am voting for Tom Hayden.

* Your article “Unz Jabs at Wilson in Radio Debate” (May 28) leaves the false impression that the governor was on his heels during the debate. Anyone who listened to the discussion by the obviously antagonistic host could see that Gov. Pete Wilson was prepared with facts, rather than hyperbole.
Although some may complain about his sometimes lengthy responses to questions, one can argue successfully that he attempts to answer each and every question with specificity and thoroughness. This is in stark contrast to his probable Democratic opponent’s blame-game approach. Wilson may not be the most charismatic candidate, but he shows the tenacity and preparedness necessary to run our state.

* Gov. Wilson finally got it right.
At the end of one of his TV spots, he looks into the camera, stern-faced, stiff-lipped, and with a no-nonsense demeanor, while he says, “Enough is enough!” Pete, ol’ boy, many of us have felt that about you since early in your Administration.
