Indians Pound Angels

CLEVELAND —  Charles Nagy shut out California for 8 2/3 innings Monday night to lead the Cleveland Indians to their 10th straight home win, a 10-2 victory over the Angels.

The Indians collected 15 hits in posting their 10th straight win at Jacobs Field, their best home winning streak since they won 13 in a row at Cleveland Stadium in 1965.

California has lost three straight.

Nagy (4-3) carried a four-hit shutout into the ninth before Jorge Fabregas and Gary DiScarina hit two-out RBI singles. Nagy struck out nine and walked five, winning for only the second time in five May starts. Nagy, who missed much of last season with shoulder problems, received only four runs from the Indians in his three losses.

Carlos Baerga hit a two-run home run, and Wayne Kirby had three hits, drove in three runs and scored twice for Cleveland. Alvaro Espinoza also had three hits.

Eddie Murray and Kirby each hit a two-run double during the Indians’ six-run fifth inning, their biggest of the season.

Former Indian John Farrell (1-2) yielded seven runs and eight hits in four-plus innings. He left after the Indians started the fifth with four straight hits, including Kirby’s double.
