THOUSAND OAKS : Arts Plaza Fund Tops $4.35 Million

An endowment to support the Civic Arts Plaza in Thousand Oaks has topped $4.35 million, boosted by four new contributions Tuesday.
Ventura County Newspapers--which publishes four newspapers, including the Thousand Oaks News Chronicle--pledged $50,000 in cash and $200,000 worth of advertising space.
Other donors who announced $50,000 contributions Tuesday are:
Richard Johnson, who chairs the fund-raising campaign, and his wife, Joyce; Fred Raio, the former president of First State Bank of the Oaks, and his wife, Barbara; and Westlake Village resident Donald S. Liebman, who owns an insurance company.
The newspaper pledge Tuesday followed that of a larger endowment in March by the Los Angeles Times and Times Mirror Foundation. The Times announced a gift of $1 million, also divided between cash and advertising credit.
The Times’ donation this spring pushed the Civic Arts Plaza endowment over the original $3 million goal. Bolstered by the community support, fund-raisers recently raised their target to $10 million.
“It does keep the adrenaline flowing,” Richard Johnson said. “If we can maintain this pace, we’ll be able to meet our goal.”
