Germany Clears Final Obstacle to Privatization of Lufthansa: The government paved the way for the full privatization of national airline Deutsche Lufthansa after agreeing to help the carrier meet its pension liabilities. The problem of how pensions will be paid when Lufthansa is no longer part of the public sector had been the main obstacle to the government’s plan to sell its 51.42% stake. Lufthansa, a money loser for the past three years, said privatization will enable it to return to profit and help it in the cutthroat struggle against rival airlines.
