Michael Huffington

The Times did a great service to California voters by introducing us to Michael Huffington, who apparently got the word while praying on Mt. Athos that he should seek the real meaning in life by purchasing a seat in the U.S. Senate (April 17).

The professional politicians who know us so well that we despise them may not be the answer for these mixed-up times. But surely we aren’t so desperate that we’ll elect these seekers of spirit worlds who come down to Earth only long enough to sign checks on their fathers’ bank accounts to pay very earthy political consultants for TV ads.

Do we really have to suffer through the campaign commercials of another ultra-rich conservative trying to buy a Senate seat because he’s failed at all the other jobs that daddy’s money could buy? Give us a break, Mr. Huffington. Besides, there are plenty of us who agree with Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s “deciding” vote on Clinton’s plan to raise taxes on the wealthy.
