BASEBALL DAILY REPORT : DODGERS : Park’s Move Boosts Left-Handed Pitching

Some may regard Omar Daal as just the other man in the Chan Ho Park move.

But not the Dodgers.

Part of the reason they sent down Park, a right-handed rookie pitcher, was to get him more work.

But another reason was to promote Daal, a left-hander. That’s a commodity the Dodgers are sorely missing. With Park on the roster, the Dodgers had only one left-hander, Gary Wayne, on the pitching staff.

Wayne is 0-2 with a 6.75 earned-run average this season.

Daal, 22, appeared in 47 games for the Dodgers last season and was 2-3 with a 5.09 ERA. He was 1-0 with Albuquerque with a 9.64 ERA before being recalled Wednesday.

Moving to further shore up their left-handed pitching, the Dodgers also signed Joe Klink to a minor league contract with Albuquerque.

Klink, 32, was with the Florida Marlins last season where he was 0-2 with a 5.02 ERA in 59 appearances, all in relief.

Klink, who was released just before this season, is effective against left-handed hitters. He held left-handed batters to a .216 average last season and has held them to a .229 average during his five-year career.
