Today, for the first time in its long history, the Amalienborg Palace in Copenhagen--official residence of Queen Margrethe II of Denmark--is opening one of its wings to the public. Highlights include the private studies of King Christian IX (1818-1906) and King Christian X (1870-1947) and the drawing room of Queen Louise (1817-1898), pictured, which is filled with original rococo pieces, late-Victorian furniture and family portraits and photographs. The porcelain chandelier was a golden wedding gift from Wilhelm II of Germany. A costume gallery and jewelry room are also open. Summer hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. Admission is about $5.50 for adults and 80 cents for children.
