** Phish, “Hoist,” Elektra. As the underappreciated ‘60s band Spirit once did, this Vermont quartet incorporates a Hebrew prayer into the rock of its third major-label album. And like Spirit, Phish offers an idiosyncratic blend of chops and cleverness. Unlike Spirit, there’s little depth of imagination or emotion to make it more than a set of quirky (and not very memorable) musical and lyrical twists.
New albums are rated on a scale of one star (poor), two stars (fair), three stars (good) and four stars (excellent).
