Rancho Santiago Rallies to Upset Fullerton
Christine Culver knocked in the winning run in the fifth inning and helped Rancho Santiago upset Fullerton, 2-1, in an Orange Empire Conference softball game at Rancho Santiago Wednesday.
Fullerton took the lead in the second inning when Janalyn Bloomfield doubled to center to score Kathy Donovan. But Rancho Santiago pitcher Jocelyn Patrick quickly settled down, and did not allow another hit.
Rancho Santiago improved to 20-15, 8-5; Fullerton dropped to 21-12, 12-2.
In other conference games:
Saddleback 6, Irvine Valley 0--Amy Blohm was two for three with an RBI for host Saddleback (18-14, 6-7). Irvine Valley dropped to 1-27, 0-14.
Cypress 5, Riverside 0--Freshman Jenny Lopez pitched a shutout for Cypress (32-14, 8-5), increasing her scoreless streak to 35 innings.
The Chargers’ Amber Harris had two hits and an RBI.
In Orange Empire Conference men’s volleyball:
Orange Coast 3, Palomar 0--Mike Melcher had 12 kills to lead Orange Coast (10-2) to the 15-8, 15-5, 15-12 victory.
