SAN CLEMENTE : Library Bookstore Fund-Raiser Planned
Financial independence for the city library is only $38,000 away.
The library support group, Friends of the San Clemente Library, has come up with $85,000 since 1990. Through a series of fund-raisers, including a benefit on April 23, organizers hope to inch closer to the $123,000 needed to build a bookstore that will raise money to subsidize the library.
The fund-raiser will be held in the city community building at 242 Avenida Del Mar from noon to 4 p.m.
For several years, the library support group has sold used books, raising money to buy new books for the library. But the space for selling the used volumes has been limited, inspiring the support group to seek funding for a facility.
In 1990, the library group received a $50,000 bequest from retired librarian Alpha Russell and decided to start the bookstore campaign.
Called the Bookstore Buddy Bash, the April 23 fund-raising event will feature music, clowns, crafts, food and a raffle.
