CYPRESS : Anti-Harassment Policy OKd by Board
The Cypress School District board voted unanimously this week to give final approval to a policy prohibiting students from sexually harassing other students.
The policy was adopted to maintain “an educational environment free from harassment, intimidation or insult on the basis of an individual’s sex,” school officials said in a report.
Under the policy, district students are prohibited from making unwelcome sexual flirtations or propositions, as well as sexual epithets, threats, derogatory comments or sexually degrading descriptions either verbally or with jokes, gestures, drawings or writings. Spreading sexual rumors, teasing and touching classmates in a sexual manner, displaying sexually suggestive objects or retaliating against those who report violators also are not allowed.
In addition, students and teachers are required to report sexual harassment to principals, and violators could face expulsion, district officials said.
