Southwest May Be Dropped From Reservation System: Apollo Information Systems, one of the four major computerized airline reservation systems, says it will drop Southwest flight information and ticketing capacity from its network on May 1 unless the bargain airline agrees to pay for the service. Up to now, Apollo and other major reservation systems have included Southwest as a courtesy to the 15,000 travel agency locations in the United States and Canada that subscribe to the system, even though the low-cost airline declines to pay a per-reservation fee, as do other major carriers. A Southwest spokeswoman said that paying fees to the systems would cost about $100 million a year. She called that a “costly proposition” that could put pressure the carrier’s fare structure.
