South Gate 58, Kennedy 38--Ruby Maciel had 24 points and Anna Roesner scored 13 as the Rams powered to a City 4-A first-round playoff victory at home Wednesday. Garfield 52, Palisades 45--Deana Duran scored 20 points and Monica Abundis had 12 for the visiting Bulldogs in a first-round City 3-A playoff game Wednesday.

Miriam Gonzalez, who grabbed 11 rebounds, and Maria Medina also had five steals each for Garfield. Venice 69, Fremont 54--Debresha McDaniel scored 15 points and Rochelle Davis had 11, but the Pathfinders committed 25 turnovers in a City first-round playoff loss at Fremont on Wednesday. Taft 52, Lincoln 45--Inocencia Ibarra scored 17 points for Lincoln in a first-round 3-A City playoff loss Wednesday at Taft.

Jefferson 101, Poly 35--Kyetra Brown and Chaka Smith each scored 29 points for the top-seeded Democrats in a City 3-A first-round playoff game Wednesday.

Brown had 17 assists and Smith had 13 rebounds. Gardena 58, Bell 39--The Eagles committed 25 fouls in the first-round City 3-A playoff game Wednesday at Gardena. The Mohicans went to the free-throw line 41 times and made 18. Alma Ruvalcaba led Bell with 20 points and Karina Henriquez added nine.
