Greed Responsible for Prep Blowouts

Eric Shepard (Feb. 22) should put the blame for the blowout basketball games on the greedy Southern Section playoff system. He should investigate why teams with 7-15 and 6-10 records are vying for the section and state championships.
His statements that coaches should “anticipate a rout” and “bring junior varsity players,” and that players coming off the bench should play patty-cake are ludicrous.
Do you think that the Southern Section would cut the number of playoff teams to make the games more competitive. Nope, too many lost ticket sales. Unfortunately, Eric, that is what high school basketball is about.
