Jason Hartman of Thousand Oaks High was informed Thursday that he has been selected to play in the McDonald’s All-American all-star game April 3 in New York, N.Y.
Hartman, a senior forward, was called out of class and given the news by Athletic Director Barbara Safe, who received a phone call from a McDonald’s official. The annual game features the top 20 high school players in the nation and is played on Easter.
“I was really overwhelming that I was picked,” Hartman said. “I mean, there are so many good players in the nation. I really didn’t think I’d get picked. I can’t believe I am going to be there.”
Hartman, who committed during the early signing period to attend Washington, led Thousand Oaks to a 21-7 record and its fourth consecutive Marmonte League championship. Hartman averaged 18.7 points and 11.3 rebounds a game.

St. Bonaventure High senior Brad Burnett has accepted an appointment to the United States Naval Academy. Burnett, a three-sport standout for the Seraphs, was sought by the Midshipmen to play quarterback on the football team and pitch for the baseball team.
“I’ve wanted to go to the academy since my freshman year,” said Burnett, 6 feet 3, 180 pounds, who committed last week during a visit by Navy assistant football coach Mike Drake. “Navy was my first choice, but they weren’t recruiting me until I called them. They didn’t know about me.”
Cal Lutheran and Claremont also sought Burnett, and Army and Pennsylvania expressed interest. Burnett completed 89 of 168 passes for 1,146 yards and six touchdowns last season and expects to be the top pitcher on the St. Bonaventure baseball team this spring. He carries a 4.0 cumulative grade-point average while taking advance-placement and college-preparatory classes.
