GIRLS’ SWIMMING AND DIVING ’94 / Six Teams to Watch : Los Alamitos
- Share via
Coach: Debbie Fleming (11th year).
1993: Second in the Empire League; 10th at Division I championship meet.
Key returners: Amy DeBolt, Sr.; Adrienne Paradeise, Sr.; Jamie Rubino, So.; Tatum Schubert, Jr.
Key newcomers: Joanna O’Kelley, Fr.; Leigh Schubert, Fr.
Outlook: It’s comeback time. Los Alamitos owned the Empire League, with titles from 1984 to 1991. But after back-to-back second-place finishes to El Dorado, Los Alamitos thinks this year marks the return of the Griffins. “I’m excited about this year,” Fleming said. “I think we’re going to be really good.” Why the confidence, considering El Dorado’s fifth-place finish at the section meet? Two words: Kella Hoblick, last year’s co-swimmer of the meet for El Dorado--she defended her titles in the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke--has transferred to Fresno to work out with her old coach. DeBolt (team captain), Paradeise (sixth, 50 freestyle; sixth, 100 butterfly) and Tatum Schubert (eighth, 100 backstroke) anchor the Griffins.
