Coach: Chris Duncan (first year).
1993: Second in the Pacific Coast League; Division III champion.
Key returners: Bryan Brewer, Sr.; Andrew Dober, Jr.; Victor Fung, Jr.; Preston Hammontree, Jr.; Mark Kwok, Jr.; Tyler Maertz, So., diving; Jeff Nichols, Jr., diving; David Yarbrough, Sr.
Key newcomers: Brandon Campbell, Fr., diving; Matt Kwok, Fr.; Lin-Chen Yang, Jr.
Outlook: After only two years, during which he coached Laguna Hills to a runner-up (1992) and first-place finish (1993) in the Division III section meet, Rohan Taylor moved to Australia to coach water polo. Assistant Duncan, who was an All-American when he swam for Costa Mesa (1984-86), takes over the successful Hawks’ program, which returns Hammontree (first, 200-yard free; second, 500 free), Mark Kwok (second, 200 individual medley; second, 100 free) and Nichols (first, diving), all instrumental players in the Hawks’ championship effort. Mark’s brother Matt, a breaststroker and competitor in the individual medley, should fill in blanks left by Mendi Dalavarian and Dustin Burns.
