DIVISION V BOYS’ BASKETBALL : St. Margaret’s Pulls Away From Yeshiva

Damian Raibon scored a game-high 23 points and teammate Bobby Baker added 21 as St. Margaret’s beat Los Angeles Yeshiva, 76-57, in the second round of Southern Section Division V-AA boys’ basketball playoffs Tuesday night in San Juan Capistrano.
It was the 15th consecutive victory for the Tartans (20-3). Yeshiva had eliminated St. Margaret’s in the playoffs last season.
St. Margaret’s led, 16-15, after the first quarter but pulled out to a 36-29 halftime lead.
Yeshiva (13-11) trimmed an 18-point deficit to eight with 3 minutes 55 seconds left in the game, but Baker keyed a 10-0 run over the next 2:20.
“It was a sweet victory,” St. Margaret’s Coach Rick Bauer said, “because we lost last year to these guys. I’ve had to live with that for a year and now it’s good to get over it.”
Bobby Masters added 10 points and 10 rebounds for St. Margaret’s, which will play Campbell Hall Friday in a quarterfinal.
Mark Hecht led Yeshiva with 20 points.
In a Division V-A quarterfinal:
Santa Mara Valley Christian 89, Liberty Christian 73--Senior Dave Vaccaro scored 29 points, 14 in the third quarter for visiting Liberty Christian (14-12). Valley Christian (22-3), the top-seeded team, trailed, 41-38, early in the third quarter but went on a 15-2 run to open a 53-43 lead.
Ryan Burks and Jeff McCoy had six points each during the run for Valley Christian.
Chad Bickley scored 25, including five three-pointers, for Valley Christian. Bickley had scored 89 points in a game earlier this season.
