DIVISION V BOYS’ BASKETBALL : Vaccaro’s Strong Play Leads Liberty Christian

Bob McClung scored a game-high 24 points and Dave Vaccaro was three blocks away from a triple-double to lead Liberty Christian past Pacific Shores, 70-42, in a second-round Southern Section Division V-A boys’ basketball playoff game at Laguna Hills.
Vaccaro scored 18 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and blocked seven shots, leading the Minutemen (14-11) to Tuesday’s quarterfinals against No. 1-seeded Santa Maria Valley Christian.
Vaccaro scored 11 of Liberty’s 19 first-quarter points, and 15 of the team’s 33 in the first half, as the Minutemen opened a 33-19 lead.
“Dave Vaccaro came to play,” Coach Rudy Sass said. “He kept us going in the first half.”
The Seahawks (10-8) were led by Roldan Chapple, with 15 points, and Danny Chapple (14).
Pacific Shores got as close as 11 points when Tim Collins made a three-pointer to start the third quarter, but Liberty scored the next eight points to open a 41-22 lead and was never threatened again.
In another Division V-AA game:
Fontana Ambassador Christian 93, Southern California Christian 60--No. 3-seeded Ambassador improved to 20-5. Southern California Christian finished 10-13.
