Country Clubs to Be Auctioned: The U.S. Customs Office said it will auction off the famed Indian Wells Country Club near Palm Springs and the smaller Royal Kenfield Country Club outside Las Vegas as partial settlement of a massive international money-laundering case. The 27-hole Indian Wells course and its 155-room hotel, home of the Bob Hope Classic, will be sold to the highest bidder May 19. The 18-hole Royal Kenfield and 34 acres of adjacent land will be sold April 28. The Customs Service received the two resorts and other properties after Tokyo-based Ken International admitted its role in a fraudulent club-membership program.
