SANTA ANA — Relatives of a 16-year-old boy who fatally shot himself in the head while playing with a gun identified the victim Sunday as Ismael Dominguez.
Police said the Santa Ana teen-ager was playing with the loaded handgun at his home on Bishop Street Saturday when he shot himself. Dominguez had been showing the weapon to a friend who apparently warned him against playing with it, police said.
When the friend, Javier Paramo, 20, of Santa Ana, left the room, he heard a gunshot and returned to find his friend with a fatal wound, police said.
Two women who were in the house at the time of the shooting verified Paramo’s story, police and Dominguez’s relatives said Sunday.
Dominguez’s parents live in Mexico, police said, and he was staying with relatives.
