Faster Growth Urged for Shanghai: The elderly architect of China’s reform program, Deng Xiaoping, has called for even faster economic growth in China’s largest city, the official People’s Daily reported. Deng, 89, met this week with leaders in Shanghai to extend Chinese Lunar New Year greetings. In the televised meeting, he called on the Chinese people to score “greater victories” in the coming year.
