Coors Wins Discrimination Lawsuit: Adolph Coors Co. said a federal court jury found in its favor in a civil lawsuit that charged it was responsible for the failure of a minority-owned business that was a supplier to the brewing company. Felix Burrows Jr. of Chicago sued Coors under the Civil Rights Act of 1991, claiming Coors canceled orders placed with one of his businesses, Great American Tool & Manufacturing Co., because Burrows is African American. Burrows claimed the cancellations forced him to close his company in 1990. Coors said it presented evidence that it had taken “extraordinary” steps to help the company, including providing a no-interest $190,000 loan when Great American faced federal tax liens. At the time the Illinois company shut its doors, it was holding more than $85,000 in unfilled orders with Coors, Coors said.
