History Is Made at Night (AMC Monday at 8 p.m., again at 2 a.m.) Major 1937 Frank Borzage film finds Parisian maitre d’ Charles Boyer going to extreme lengths in pursuing his unrequited love for the American Jean Arthur.
Too Late Blues (AMC Wednesday at 1 p.m.) Fascinating as an early attempt by John Cassavetes to work within the Hollywood system. Uneven but pungent tale about a jazz musician (Bobby Darin) involved with the wrong woman (Stella Stevens).
The Crimson Pirate (Cinemax Thursday at 1 p.m.) Terrific 1952 Burt Lancaster tongue-in-cheek swashbuckler.
Say Amen, Somebody (Bravo Thursday at 8 p.m.; Friday at 1 a.m.) George T. Neirenberg’s infectious documentary on gospel singers, which suggests that for black Christians religion can be a joy rather than a duty, a fusion rather than a warring of body and soul.
