A 2-year-old boy apparently drowned in a pond after wandering away from his mother in a park, authorities said Saturday.
The body of Billy Leal was discovered early Saturday in a shallow pond at the Ernest B. Debs Regional Park, Los Angeles Police Lt. John Ferguson said.
The toddler’s mother, Cristina Rodriguez, said the boy was playing with dogs when he disappeared about 4:30 p.m. Friday.
She called police and 60 officers and detectives searched the park on foot, by helicopter and underwater with diving crews for seven hours, Lt. John Dunkin said.
