COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Martin Finds Range in Moorpark Win

Sean Martin scored 25 points and had seven assists to lead Moorpark College to a 90-71 basketball victory Wednesday over Santa Barbara City in a Western State Conference game.
The host Raiders improved to 21-8, 3-3 in the conference.
Martin, a sophomore from Agoura High, made five of eight shots from three-point range and converted all six of his free throws. Jimmy Harbour, a freshman from Camarillo, scored 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Raiders. Paul Foster added 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Bakersfield 79, Valley 61--The Renegades turned a three-point game into a rout with a 51-point second half and pounded Valley (10-17, 2-5) in a WSC game at Bakersfield.
Ten of Valley’s 11 players scored, but the Monarchs were no match for the Renegades (12-16, 5-1), who shot 63% (17 of 27) from the field in the second half.
Kenyth Henry led Valley with 15 points.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Ventura 62, Cuesta 38--Julie Hardy scored 12 of her 20 points in the first half, leading the Pirates (22-5, 6-1) to a Western State Conference victory at Ventura. The Pirates broke out to a 21-4 lead and put the game away with a 9-0 run to start the second half.
Michelle Cornell scored 18 points for Cuesta (10-12, 3-4).
Canyons 82, Glendale 62--Rebekah Cunnan scored 21 points and Carlisa Hamagaki added 20 for the Cougars (15-12, 7-0) in a WSC game. Suzy Woo had 27 points for Glendale.
Moorpark 82, Santa Barbara 65--Janette Oriza collected 35 points, 17 rebounds, four steals and four assists for the Raiders, who overcame a 17-point first-half deficit in a WSC North Division game. Moorpark’s Joy Garcia had 14 points, including four three-point baskets in the second half, when the Raiders outscored the Vaqueros, 47-23. Sara Marroquin added 12 points for Moorpark (10-16, 7-6 in conference, 2-5 in division).
BASEBALL
Cerritos 7, Ventura 6--The Pirates (1-1) committed seven errors and lost the nonconference game. Cerritos catcher Dusty Wathan, son of former major leaguer John Wathan, went two for four, including the game-winning RBI in the seventh inning.
Cal Lutheran’s season opener against Azusa Pacific scheduled for Wednesday was postponed because of wet grounds. The game will be played at 2:30 p.m. today at Azusa.
