Stone Takes CSUN Rebounding Lead

Shawn Stone, a 6-foot-3 inch swingman, has taken over the Cal State Northridge team lead in rebounds. Stone has 93 rebounds, 10 more than forward Chris Yard, who is out for the season because of a knee injury.
Yard, who has missed five games, still leads every other Matador. Brent Lofton, a part-time starter, has 74--nine fewer than Yard. Center Peter Micelli, who has started every game, has only 70.
“He’s not getting to the boards,” Coach Pete Cassidy said of Micelli. “It’s not because he doesn’t want to. He just has the habit of standing and watching.”
Cassidy said Micelli, a 6-8 junior, would routinely critique himself while watching game films in the Northridge basketball office.
“He could see his mistakes,” Cassidy said. “Back when we had an office, he did that on a regular basis.”
Matador players and coaches have been unable to use the basketball office since the Northridge gym was closed after the Jan. 17 earthquake.
