San Clemente football Coach Mark McElroy, hospitalized after experiencing chest pains at school Tuesday, was released from Samaritan Medical Center-San Clemente Wednesday.
Doctors are unsure what caused his pain but said McElroy, 33, did not suffer a heart attack, McElroy said from home Wednesday. He said his pain subsided late Tuesday, but doctors decided to have him stay overnight for observation and additional tests.
McElroy is taking medication and must return to the hospital Friday for more testing.
“I’ve been better,” McElroy said. “Hopefully (the doctors) will have a better idea of what’s going on (after Friday).”
McElroy, who began complaining of pain Tuesday morning, said he does not expect to resume his duties at San Clemente this week.
