Oxnard police arrested a man Monday on suspicion of felony hit-and-run after he fled the scene of a traffic accident on foot, leaving his pregnant wife and year-old son to be taken by ambulance to the hospital.
Oxnard resident Lazaro Salazar, 30, was arrested when he visited his wife at the hospital, where she was being treated for minor injuries, authorities said.
Salazar is accused of running a red light on Ventura Road at Hill Street about 2 p.m. Monday, striking a pickup truck driven by Teri Lopez, 22, of Oxnard, said Oxnard Police Officer Ernie Orozco.
Witnesses said Salazar fled the scene on foot, Orozco said. He said Salazar left behind his 30-year-old wife, Julia, who was seven months pregnant, his 1-year-old son, Lazaro Jr., two unidentified sisters and a niece.
Salazar’s wife and child were taken to St. John’s Regional Medical Center along with Lopez and a passenger.
