A Businessman Worth Cheering About
It was heartening to read your profile of Yvon Chouinard, a man who has been able to build a successful business and yet not forget what it’s all about (“A Man and His Planet,” Jan. 28).
I contrast him with the basically evil and greedy CEOs of large corporations--oil, chemical, mining and timber companies especially--whose only goals are to milk the Earth’s resources and the citizens of the world, and who leave nothing but poisoned environment.
These individuals, who earn millions of dollars annually in salaries, bonuses and benefits, would much rather spend millions more on public relations and buying off politicians than they would on cleaning up the messes they make or attempting not to make the messes in the first place.
I say hooray for Chouinard.
