PacTel Cellular, the Irvine cellular phone maker, has expanded its headquarters by signing a five-year lease for an additional 65,132 square feet of office space in Irvine.
By May, the company will occupy a three-story building at 17900 Von Karman Ave. that is owned by Aetna Life and Surety Co. The lease terms were not disclosed.
Extensive interior rehabilitation of the building is planned, including the construction of cellular telephone installation bays and a sales and repair center. More than 100 workers will occupy the new building, the company said.
PacTel currently occupies about 200,000 square feet of office space in the Jamboree Center near Main Street and Jamboree Road, also in Irvine.
PacTel Cellular, a subsidiary of the PacTel Corp. of Walnut Creek, operates cellular and paging ventures worldwide.
