Wagner Honored by Volleyball Coaches Group

Long Beach State’s Martin Wagner was named national player of the week by the American Volleyball Coaches Assn. Wagner, a junior, graduated from Irvine High and attended Irvine Valley for two years. This is his first year at Long Beach State.
In two games last week, he had 34 kills in 48 attempts with only three errors. Wagner is the inaugural winner of the award. It will be given weekly to the nation’s outstanding player.
Wagner leads Long Beach in kills, hitting percentage, kills per game and aces. He is second in digs, block assists, total blocks and blocks per game. Long Beach (1-2) plays matches in Hawaii tonight and Wednesday.
