ANAHEIM : New Police Chief Reorganizes Force

In one of his first official acts, Police Chief Randall Gaston has reorganized the Police Department to reduce administrative positions and reallocate resources.
“We want to make sure that we are running the department in a lean, administrative way,” said Gaston, who announced the reorganization on Tuesday.
As part of the restructuring, the department will eliminate one of five captain’s positions. The slot eliminated is the one that Gaston vacated after he became chief last month.
Additionally, five police divisions are being renamed, reassigned and consolidated into four divisions. The new divisions are: Community Services, Detective, Patrol and Special Operations.
He said the restructuring will save some money, which will then be funneled into other police services.
“We want to have less administrative costs and take those savings and apply them to existing field operations,” Gaston said.
