Tow-Truck Driver Arrested in Police Sting
GARDEN GROVE — Police said they have arrested a tow truck driver who allegedly stole property from cars he towed under contract with the Police Department.
Wayne Robinson, 31, was arrested Friday in a sting operation at Me & Ed’s Towing Service in the 12700 block of Nutwood Street. Officers in the Special Investigations Unit saw Robinson take a stereo from an unmarked police car they had hired him to tow, Garden Grove Police Sgt. Dan Lyons said. The stereo was later found in Robinson’s vehicle, police said.
Officers decided to mount the sting after receiving complaints that property had been stolen from vehicles towed by the company, Sgt. Joe Johnson said.
Robinson, a Westminster resident, was booked on suspicion of possessing stolen property and embezzlement and remained in custody Saturday in the Orange County Jail. Police had not yet determined whether he was involved in the earlier cases, Johnson said.
