Fountain Valley entered last week as one of the teams receiving votes in the Orange County sportswriters’ poll. After the Barons’ performance in the Marina tournament, more votes are bound to come their way. Fountain Valley defeated No. 10 El Dorado, No. 6 Marina, highly regarded Newport Harbor and Kent (Wash.) Meridian, which beat No. 2 Mater Dei. Strange, who averaged 16 points, 10 rebounds and 3.5 steals in the tournament, had 18 points and 15 rebounds in the 56-42 victory over Meridian in the title game Thursday.

* Angela Burgess of Woodbridge was named MVP of the Costa Mesa tournament after scoring 18 points in a 61-32 victory over Costa Mesa.

* Cassie Campbell of Marina scored seven goals, including two in the title game, to help the Vikings win the Excalibur soccer tournament.

* Jessica Eggleston averaged 31 points and 11 rebounds in helping Cypress win the Savanna tournament title. She was named MVP.

* Nicole Erickson of Brea-Olinda was named MVP of the Alaska Invitational after scoring 38 points in the title-game victory over Lake Oswego (Ore.) Lakeridge.
