The Region : 8-Mile Car-Pool Lane Opens on 210 Freeway

Commuters who don’t drive alone can now zip past bumper-to-bumper traffic on the eastbound Foothill Freeway (210) between Duarte and Glendora, thanks to a new car-pool lane.
The eight-mile lane between Buena Vista Street in Duarte and Sunflower Avenue in Glendora opened last week.
It is the first section of a 19-mile car-pool lane project from Glendora to Pasadena that will include eastbound and westbound lanes.
A westbound car-pool lane from Glendora to Pasadena is scheduled to open in mid-December. The entire project is expected to be completed in January.
The car-pool lanes are reserved for vehicles with at least two occupants.
The project was delayed after heavy rains last year damaged the inside median planned for the car-pool lanes. The rains forced contractors to remove old asphalt and pour new concrete.
The bill for the project increased from $5.4 million to more than $10 million, according to Caltrans.
