OUTLOOK
You can’t accuse Byars of a lack of candor when it comes to discussing this year’s squad. “I really have no idea what this team is going to do,” Byars said. “We’re rebuilding and starting over again.” The Colonists have no returning starters back from a team that finished last in league last year. But that doesn’t mean Anaheim wasn’t competitive--true, the Colonists went 1-9 in league, but they played close games throughout the season. This year’s squad is likely to follow that pattern of hard-fought games. Anaheim has little size (only two players taller than 6-2), no starting experience, and no one to match up with the likes of Savanna’s Jermaine Moore or Magnolia’s Frank Henderson and Brandon Hearvey, but the Colonists under Byars have traditionally played hard, disciplined basketball, and the coach expects the same in 1993-94. “I do know my team will play with enthusiasm, play hard and be as competitive as we possibly can be,” said Byars, entering his 10th season as head coach. “We do have great team quickness, so I think we’ll have to pressure defensively and fast break offensively.”
