Furon Co.: The Laguna Niguel manufacturer of components from polymer materials reported a 10% increase in profit for its latest quarter. Earnings were $2.2 million, or 25 cents a share, up from $2 million, or 23 cents a share, for the same period a year earlier. Sales for the company’s third fiscal quarter, which ended Oct. 30, were $70 million, down from $76 million for the same period a year earlier. However, the company said that when the effect of businesses sold was taken into account, sales were unchanged for the quarter and the first nine months of the fiscal year. Earnings for the fiscal year to date totaled $5.6 million, or 63 cents a share, down 5% from $5.9 million, or 69 cents a share, for the corresponding period a year earlier. Nine-month sales declined 5% to $217.4 million from $229.5 million.
