Cargill Heads Forbes List of Private Companies: The $47.1-billion-a-year marketer of agricultural products is by far the biggest privately held company in America, the magazine reported. No. 2-ranked Koch Industries--an oil, gas and chemicals conglomerate--has sales of $20.1 billion. The rest of the Top 10: United Parcel Service; Continental Grain; candy maker Mars; brokerage Goldman, Sachs & Co.; airline holding company NWA; Bechtel Group, the San Francisco-based engineering firm; Publix Super Markets, and KPMG Peat Marwick, the giant international accounting firm.
